About | NUS Dance Ensemble

Since its inception in 1992, the National University of Singapore (NUS) Dance Ensemble has garnered acclaim and established itself as a promising dance group that explores dance movements by infusing jazz, ballet, ethnic & contemporary styles into its extensive repertoire.

Under the passionate direction of its resident choreographer and artistic director, Zaini Mohammad Tahir, the group staged its first dance concert Imageries in 1992. Since then, the Ensemble has been active at campus and external cultural events at a local and international level, including its very own highly successful The Next Wave and Evocation series.

We have grown continually through the years and metamorphosed from a budding group of dance enthusiasts to a full-fledged 10-member strong dance company recognised for its high technical and artistic standards.

NUS Dance Ensemble has earned wide recognition for its dedication in showcasing new talents and original works. Its past performances have been described to consist of "a compelling hybrid of styles, watermarked with an upbeat pulse", which is a trademark of the NUS Dance Ensemble. Such recognition has spurred the group to strive harder for greater achievements.
